9/11 Memorial NYC

During my trip to New York City,

My pals and I visited the 9/11 Memorial.

First of all, it was FREEZING that day,

so we didn’t get to spend as much time there

as I would have liked.

It was heart-breaking to see all those

names inscribed in bronze on

the vast twin memorial pools.

Later that same day,

Kristin and I wanted to understand

the idea behind the design of the memorial.

We discussed the pits:

192 feet by 192 feet,

with their 30 feet deep cascading waterfalls,

both set in the footprints of the towers.

For us, they seemed to represent

the loss we felt that day as a country.

Because of the deep feeling of loss,

I wanted to keep my layout clean and simple,

adding only hand-written 9/11 quotes.
