Creative Juice

Monday, August 25th, 2008

The other day I was talking to my Mom on the phone…I went on and on about all the projects I want to pursue now that my kids are back in school.

The conversation went a little something like this:

Me:  Jeeze, There are so many projects that I want to do now that I have a little extra time.  For instance, I want to re-finish my desk, paint a wall in the living room…I want to scrapbook on canvas, work on a shadow box. I’ve written all of this down but I get overwhelmed just thinking about where to start.  I usually end up just taking a nap.

Mom: I feel the same way.  There are so many projects that I want to start.  So many wonderful ideas…so many, that I don’t know where to start either.

Me:  *Sigh* Maybe I should just make a list of projects, put them in a jar and pull an idea out…then I’ll know where to start.

Mom:  That’s a great idea!  I’m going to do that!

Me:  Really?  You think so?

Mom:  Yes!  You can decorated the jar…ooo…put it on your blog.  Yes, it’s a great idea.

Me:  Whatever.

Mom:  Seriously.  The jar is a great idea.

Me:  I guess.  I could pick one thing at a time, take however long I need to finish, even if it’s a couple days…a week.  Then pick another one.

Mom: Yes, yes!  I think other people will benefit from this idea.

My mom has a way of making me feel special - don’t you think?

Mom:  What should you call it….?

The conversation with my Mom went on…we ended up liking: “Creative Juice.”

Yeah?  What do you think?  Here’s mine:

I made my LONG list of projects:

Then I cut out idea strips and put them in my jar.  Simple enough.

Here’s a close-up of the jar:

And the lid:

Now…what will the first project be?  Guess I’ll go digging for a little strip of paper in my Creative Juice Jar.

Have a wonderful day!

Fun with BIND-IT-ALL

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I purchased my own Zutter Bind-it-all at the last big scrapbooking crop I attended at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique. I have REALLY enjoyed using it! I can bind whatever I want!

First things first, remember that huge mess on my desk the other night? Before I could possible start another project I had to clean it up.

Ah, much better.

Alrighty. I started with some random little ATC pages from 7 Gypsies. Then I grabbed Jenni Bowlin Tags…a bit of Teresa Collins paper, some Tim Holtz tags and the I chalked it all and punched holes in each page with the Bind-it-all!

To be completely honest, my Bind-it-all has been catching my eye for the past few days…I just really wanted to use the thing so I created a reason to do it! I’m glad I did because I ended up with this little mini journal sorta book:

Now, what to use it for…hmmm…maybe I’ll use it to write down all the cute thing my kids say…?

Sprocket Woman…

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Sprocket Woman’s real name is Mrs. Larrence (my son’s 4th grade teacher). Sprocket woman is AMAZING! These are the facts: She’s married to Sprocket Man (Super Heroes like to marry other Super Heroes), she wears her red cape and mask around school, she created a “Bike Shop” for the kids in her class and for the last 3 months has had a real “Bike Shop” owner donating time each day, teaching the kids to repair bicycles. Sprocket Woman had had a bike extravaganza and school (they gave away 20 bikes, even more helmets, bike locks and safety pads), created “Bike Safety” day at school and also was in charge of “Ride Your Bike To School Week” where the kids have to check in and sign a bike safety contract.

The students in her class are learning all aspects of business…she has some in sales, some in book-keeping, etc. My son is learning to be a Bike Mechanic (he has always loved to take things apart and put them back together).  She has even made business cards for each student!  Fun!

Seriously…the kids love this and Sprocket Woman (Mrs. Larrence) is an outstanding teacher. If you think this is cool, you should have seen the classroom when they studied Egypt! They made their room into a museum and built a Tomb for other classes to tour (of course she was Pharaoh Larrence). Yup, she sure does know how to go the extra mile!

I was thinking about end of year gifts for my children’s teachers and wanted to do something cool for them. Obviously I chose to make a “Sprocket Woman” wall hanging…I couldn’t resist when I bought the Tim Holtz Sprocket Gears! I hope Sprocket Woman likes it!
