It Feels Like Fall

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I love Autumn.  Autumn is my very favorite season.  The color, the cooler weather…sweaters and hot cocoa…lighting Pumpkin Spice scented candles. I just love this time of year.

This is the view through a couple of my windows this morning:

Doesn’t it make you want to snuggle up in a blanket with a warm cup of cocoa or cider?  Yep, me too.

My kids love this season because of Halloween.  Izabelle loves to dress up (the scarier the better) and Parker loves to Trick-or-Treat.

The kids and I decorated the house the first of the month.  I’ve been waiting for a brighter day to take some photos but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon. I went ahead and pulled out my little point-and-shoot anyway.

This is one of our Halloween Trees:

Last year I joined a charm making swap and ended up with over 50 charms.   The charms made perfect little Halloween Tree ornaments. Check out how cute they are:

Here are a couple of hand-blown glass pumpkin charms:

Izabelle’s favorite Halloween decoration, the potion jars:

A couple of simple garlands that I threw together:

And the last photo…a pumpkin bell.  This bell is usually hidden inside the fabric garland it’s tied to. I love it,  the little bell makes me smile every time I see it:

This is when I gave up taking photos. I decided to call my camera repair man and ask him: Exactly when am I getting my lens back? Of course, the answering machine picked up.

I miss my good camera.

Time to snuggle up with a cup of hot cocoa.

I always have leftover paper after creating layouts.  I love to make cards with leftovers…waste not, want not. right?

My leftover Pink Paislee Halloween paper was put to good use. I threw together some simple cards:

All Pink Paislee, all very simple, all fun to make.

Pink Paislee - Twilight Collection

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I’m in love with the new Twilight Collection by, Pink Paislee!  It’s adorable, versatile and fun to use!  Karen of Paradise Scrapbook Boutique sent me these fun new papers and the embellishments to match (she’s so dang awesome).  In return, I created a class layout for her using the Twilight Collection.

The layout in this post is NOT the layout that I created for PSB…I’ll post about the PSB class layout in a bit (I’ll give Karen a chance to post the photos first).

But THIS post is about the layout I created with the same Collection.  I love the cute, matching press on transfers, bella brads and punch outs.  I had fun creating with this Pink Paislee line.

Halloween Cuties!

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

The cuteness begins!  Above is my little niece Kayla the Pumpkin Witch.  She does not like her photo taken so I had to sneak one in while taking a photo of “The Pumpkin”.

This next photo is of my kids with their cousin…I took a few and in all of them at least one of the kids was looking away…in this one it was Parker.

Here’s one of Parker the Astronaut, complete with Jet Pack.  Izabelle was a Werewolf but could not wear her scary face around the little ones.  If you’d like to see her scary costume click HERE.

Kayla and Parker caught in a Halloween hug.

This is one of my favorites…My friend Carrie’s little boy Kade the Pirate.  In this photo he was saying: “Walk the plank!”

I finished up my Halloween with my Sista’s at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique:

The Joy of Swapping

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

There’s nothing like a good swap, and Cyndy’s charm swap was no exception.  There is no way that I will be able to use all of these lovely charms by Halloween, so I thought, what better way to display them than to hang them on a Halloween tree?

My kids loved the idea and helped me hang them.  It’s kind of like a Christmas tree…but not.  I will say that after we were finished decorating the Halloween tree my kids wanted to watch the Nightmare Before Christmas.  Hmmmm…I still have the “This is Halloween” song stuck in my head.

I hope you have a lovely day,

Christie

Friday Foto Finish Fiesta {I SPY}

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Playing along with CANDID CARRIE.

My kids LOVE to read the I SPY books.  We own all of the I SPY books and even have an I SPY Treasure Hunt computer game.

Parker recently checked out a video from our local library.  The video was all about the I SPY books and how they are created.  The video runs for about 20 minutes.  Parker and Izabelle watched the I SPY video over and over and over and over again.  Did I mention that my kids LOVE everything I SPY?

Well, the kids took it to the next level.  Izabelle started an I SPY project and Parker helped a bit.  Izabelle made her very own I SPY scene along with a riddle.  OK, I helped a bit with the riddle, it’s not as easy as it would seem to come up with one…

Can you find everything in Izabelle’s riddle?

In honor of Candid Carrie’s Fx4, I give you Izabelle’s Spooky Spy:

I spy four skulls, a trunk and red wings.

Two spiders, a cage and four flying things.

I spy two pumpkins, a scarecrow, a “U”.

A white cat in danger and EYE OF NEWT.

If Mom Could Choose…

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Dear Izabelle,

As your Mother, if I had my choice, you would be Pirate Girl for Halloween instead of the terrifying werewolf that you’re going to be.

If I had my choice you wouldn’t date until your 18 and you would always eat your veggies, brush your teeth when asked and never fight with your brother.

If I had my choice you would stay my little girl forever…sweet, innocent, and adorable.

I admit it, I’m OK with not always getting my way.  I LOVE that you are so unique, unlike any other little girl out there.  And you are mine (definitely not your choice, it’s just the truth).  I am blessed.

Spooky {Vintage Style}

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

OK, I admit it’s been a bit spooky around here.  Pretty Paper Blog has had a little ‘Halloween Fest’…or something of that nature.

Going along with the same theme (it’s finally October and appropriate) I made this little “Spooky” garland for Karen at Paradise Scrapbook Boutique.  She’s celebrating her Boutique’s 2nd Anniversary (I’m sure I’m scrapbooking away up there as you read this post).

I cut letters for the “SPOOKY” garland from chipboard, spread on some Mod Podge, then sprinkled on some silver glass glitter.  The cool thing about the glass glitter is that it will eventually tarnish and give the garland that “vintage” look.

For the back side of this Spooky Garland, I used Vintage Tarot Cards (I picked them up at a local Antique Store).

This is what the back-side of the banner looks like:

I hope you all have a SUPER weekend!

Here Lies Lucy…She’s a Real Witch.

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

(Play along with Candid Carrie - Fx4)

She is a real Witch. Seriously.  She is.  I swear.

At least this is what I told the 2nd and 3rd graders that came to Izabelle’s “Halloween” Birthday Party.  I made sure all the kids saw her lying in her coffin before the games began.

I made up a little story on the fly…it went something like this:

Once upon a time…in a town not too far away, there lived a woman named Lucy.

Lucy was no ordinary woman, Lucy was a witch.

When Lucy died some local children went to her house to have a look around.  What they found may surprise you…do you want to know?  OK.  I’ll tell you.

On the mantel they found a BRAIN just sitting in a jar.

{This is when my friend (and helper) passed around a bowl with a towel over it.  We told the kids to “feel” the brain they found in Lucy’s house}

Do you want to know what else they found?  It might be too scary for you?  Are you sure?

Oh, alright.  In a cupboard full of webs, they found a box.  Inside the box there were INTESTINES!

{we asked them if they wanted to feel the intestines, of course they did, so we passed them around}

The children inside Lucy’s house were getting quite frightened.  Would you be frightened in Lucy’s house?  I know I would.  But the children decided to look on…They found a treasure chest, it looked like it used to shine.  Now it was old and dusty…before they opened it one of the older kids remembered a story he had over heard his mother telling a friend.

The story was about Lucy, when she was young…back then she was still a “Good” Witch.  Lucy was best friends with the Tooth Fairy.  They were such good friends that the Tooth Fairy told Lucy where she hid all the Children’s Teeth she collected.   Many years later when Lucy became a “Bad” Witch, she STOLE all of the Children’s Teeth from the Tooth Fairy!

They opened the chest, inside were thousands of TEETH!

{At this point we passed around the teeth for party-goers to “feel”}

The children were so frightened that they called the Police.  The Police sent over a Detective.

This is what the Detective discovered…Not only did Lucy the Witch collect Children’s Teeth, she also collected their FINGERS!!!

{Yep, the fingers went around the room to gross out the children}

High on a shelf in Lucy’s room the Detective found another jar, this one labeled EYEBALLS!

{around the room with the eyeballs}

The last thing the detective found was a bucket.  Inside the bucket was a HEART and worst of all it was covered with MAGGOTS!

{The heart covered in maggots was passed around the room)

This brings us to the end of our frightful tale.  Now, does anyone think I would really pass around a heart covered in Maggots?

The residing answer was “NO!”

One by one I took the towel off each bowl (of course I made them guess what was really in the bowls) and let the kids at the party LOOK and feel this time.

BRAIN = Cooked Whole Cauliflower

INTESTINES = Cooked Spagetti

TEETH = Dried Corn Kernels

FINGERS = Cooked Baby Carrots

EYEBALLS = Cherry Tomatoes (I thought of using hard-boiled eggs)

HEART = A Skinned Peach

MAGGOTS = Cooked Rice

The kids at Izabelle’s party seriously loved this game.   I’ve never had 20 kids in one room before, much less had them be completely SILENT. They were captivated.  The kids would squeal and laugh whenever they stuck their hands inside the bowls.  I even had a mom tell me a few days later that her daughter loved it so much that she tells the story herself, especially the Tooth Fairy bit.

Ah Lucy, you did your job well.
